"The Tehc": Keeping Up With The Times

With 21st Century Learning

Mankind has invented many forms of technology for many different reasons. The computer and the internet are two fine examples of this, and with the end of the Cold war, it was realized that these forms of technology could come in handy in many areas, technology being one of them.

With the dawn of the 21st century, people began looking for a new form of education. The importance of creativity, critical and analytical thinking, communication and collaboration was noticed and emphasized. English has become a must have in every field and part of life, therefore, the 21st century learning skills underline the importance of English language skills. This is why the integration of technology is very significant for EFL classes. Pretty much everything on the web is in English, so students need a firm understanding of English and a set of English language skills to ride the winds of 21st century learning.

Another era is beginning - the era of the digital natives. Therefore, the needs of such learners will be a lot different and should be acknowledged.

To sum up, 21st century learning can be defined as an education which notices the needs of digital natives, such as English language skills, critical and analytical thinking and creativity. This form of education should not give them a fish, rather; teach them how to fish. It should emhpasize content production and creativity.
