THE NOIR: MY SOUND-RICH STORY

 THE NOIR: MY SOUND-RICH STORY

Hi. This week, we covered how podcasts could be used in ELT to give students a chance at creating something of their own. This was followed by an assignment, in which I and a peer of mine were to create a sound-rich story. We decided to write a crime-fiction story.

In the story, the detective who was obsessed with a serial killer who uses candles as a form of signature and this obsession bears no fruit in chasing him. To stop this obsession of his, he is given a boring desk job. He decides to go out and seize the day. He murders a man in cold blood hoping that he would get the job, which would lead him to get a position in the field again. But he misses a camera and gets caught as a result.

The difficulty we ran into with Ece was writing the plot. It was hard to get the timing right. But it was a wonderful experience. I would apply this in my own class. The process is very creative and provides many opportunities for learning, which is a big advantage. One downside of this task was to get the tools right. Even though we used free programs like Audacity, it requires a bit of technical knowledge, and editing all the sounds, voice recordings and effects together requires a good editing program if the task is to be taken seriously. We used Camtasia Studio 9 which is one example of such programs and posted the recording on SoundCloud so that it is accesible by a link.
