WIKIS: A MOVIE REVIEW PROJECT

WIKIS: A MOVIE REVIEW PROJECT

This week, we were introduced to the use of wikis in the classroom and we were shown many creative examples on their uses. To get a hands on experience and see how things worked, our teacher created a movie review wiki and we learned how to create a wiki post. I went with one of my favorite movies called "Igla" about drug use.
The idea of using wikis as a way of improving 21st century skills of students was very influential to me, since wikis could be set up in accordance with students' interest and the skills the teacher is trying to improve. Therefore, it is in the middle ground of student interest and teacher goals; which I find very suitable for any task. Another aspect I find positive about wikis is that they are very easy to get into, fundementally they are the living versions of word documents. It allows for the embedding of videos, images and gifs, which enrichens the experience. One another positive aspect is the potential for peer learning and student cooperation since wikis allow participants to edit and comment on other wiki entries. To conclude, I have enjoyed my time working on the wiki page and I look forward to implementing wikis in my tech-integrated ELT classroom in the future.
